Effective Check Valve Selection for Chemical Process Systems

Utilized across a wide array of industries, such as: water, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, chemical, and more, chemical process systems are an essential part of transferring fluid media across various stages of manufacturing. Within the chemical process systems, there are specialized PTFE Check Valves which work to help direct flow control. PTFE Check Valves are used to ensure free flow in one direction and checked (no flow) in the opposite direction. iPolymer is your global source for advanced high purity fluid handling products, including PTFE Check Valves. Our high purity check valves are offered in a wide range of sizes and options.

PTFE Check Valve

Selecting the proper PTFE Check Valve for a high purity chemical application requires considerations of the valve size, materials, and cracking pressure. The most common material we used for high purity applications is PTFE. Given PTFE’s great resistance to corrosion, excellent temperature resilience, and inert behavior during fluid/gas transfer, it stands out among other polymers in the high purity arena.

Spring energized check valves can be oriented both vertically and horizontally. The internal spring ensure the check valve’s poppet will reengage and seal once cracked open for directional flow. Whereas ball check valves without springs, should be oriented vertically with direction flow upward against gravity. Gravity and the fluid column act as the spring and ensure the ball closes off the flow path.

iPolymer offers a wide range of PTFE Check Valve configurations. Custom orifice sizes, port sizes, end connection designs, and cracking pressures are all features to discuss. Our valves are commonly found as backflow preventers in clean processes where directional flow control is a must. We offer two configurations for our internal control springs, depending on the cracking pressure. For lower cracking pressures applications, at a nominal 3 to 5 psi, we utilize an internal spring manufactured from virgin PTFE. For higher cracking pressure applications, our check valves are constructed with a Teflon-Coated Stainless Steel, Carpenter-20, Inconel, or Hastelloy springs. The metallic spring selection is dependent on the chemical media and application parameters. iPolymer PTFE Check Valves are available from 1/8” to 1” and with a variety of common end connections.

At iPolymer, it is our goal to provide an exceptional selection of engineering high purity fluid handling products, including our PTFE Check Valves.
